STRIDE: a language for light-responsive motion.
The STRIDE framework organizes light-responsive micro/nanomotor design around six linked ideas: symmetry breaking, topology optimization, responsive dynamics, interface engineering, dimensional coupling, and energy matching.

S — Symmetry breaking
Motion begins when the system has a direction.
T — Topology optimization
Shape decides how energy, matter, and force move through the structure.
R — Responsive dynamics
The system changes under light, temperature, chemistry, pH, or other conditions.
I — Interface engineering
The interface is where light becomes heat, charge, chemical gradient, stress, or motion.
D — Dimensional coupling
Nanoscale surface behavior and microscale motion are linked.
E — Energy matching
The input energy should match the material and geometry of the system.
